CENTENARY, Ohio —Truth be told, these Blue Devils did one last job with their proverbial shovel.

That being they cleaned up quite well with the all-Ohio Valley Conference baseball awards.

That’s because a half-dozen Devils were named all-conference this past season, as Gallia Academy captured a share of the OVC baseball championship.

After an outright title in their initial OVC campaign, the Blue Devils and Coal Grove gained this year’s crown — with identical 10-4 league records.

At long last, the all-OVC list was publicly released on Thursday, as Gallia Academy completed its second season in the OVC.

Four Blue Devils landed first-team honors, while sophomore Cole Davis was named as the club’s only Honorable Mention selection.

There are no Players of the Year selected, but Gallia Academy head coach Rich Corvin garnered Coach of the Year.

Corvin completed his 14th season this spring as the Blue Devils’ head coach.

He actually shared the top skipper honor with Drew Mader of Coal Grove, as Corvin captured solo COY honors last season.

The only squad with more picks was Coal Grove, as the Hornets had four first-teamers and a pair of Honorable Mentions.

For Gallia Academy, seniors Jeremy Brumfield and Brody Thomas earned first team — as did sophomore ace pitcher Josh Faro and junior John Stout.

Faro is the Blue and White’s lone repeat selection, as he made Honorable Mention a season ago.

Four of the six Hornets are repeaters, including repeat first-teamers Daniel Rutherford and Chase McKnight.

The other repeaters are Jeb Jones and Jacob Clark, as Jones was a first-teamer this year — while Clark claimed Honorable Mention.

Both were Honorable Mention last season.

The other all-league Hornets were first-teamer Dylan Malone and Honorable Mention choice Darin Bloomfield.

Rock Hill (9-5) had five players make all-OVC, as the Redmen managed a third-place finish — losing out on their championship chances with a 1-0 loss at Gallia Academy in the final game.

None of the Redmen repeated — as Cody Lewis, Mason Darby and Landon Smith were the first-teamers and Logan Hankins and Kyle Stanfield the Honorable Mention choices.

Both South Point and Ironton — at 8-6 apiece — amounted a pair of first-teamers, while Portsmouth (6-8), Chesapeake (4-10) and Fairland (1-13) finished with one first-teamer apiece.

For South Point, Logan Wade and Jonathan Henline made first team, while Ironton’s first-team tandem was Dane Wilson and Kyle Klienmann.

Both Wade and Kleinmann made the first-team unit last season as well.

Ryan Williams of Portsmouth posted first-team honors for the second consecutive season, while Chesapeake’s Casey McComas moved up from Honorable Mention to first team.

Fairland’s only all-league selections were first-teamer Zach Crawford and Honorable Mention pick Dylan Raines.

The other Honorable Mention selections included Vincent Schwamberger and Reese Johnson of Portsmouth, Douglass Schaffer and Brody Blackwell of South Point, Gage Salyers and Garrett Carrico of Ironton, and Dalton Nida and Bryce Depriest of Chesapeake.

Johnson and Schaffer were all-OVC first-teamers in 2016.
