CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Point Pleasant senior Aislyn Hayman won two titles and scored 20 points.

The rest of Mason County just competed in Friday.

The Lady Knights were the only local program to score on Friday during Day 1 of the 2017 WVSSAC track and field championships being held at Laidley Field in Kanawha County.

Behind two state title-winning efforts from Hayman in the Class AA shot put and discus events, the PPHS girls finished the opening day of competition in fourth place with 20 points. Phillip Barbour currently leads the Class AA girls meet with 25 points, with Winfield (24) and Bridgeport (22) wedged in between PBHS and the Lady Knights.

The Black Knights came up empty on points during Day 1 of the Class AA boys meet, which is currently being led by Poca with 34 points.

Neither the White Falcons nor the Lady Falcons came away with any Day 1 podium finishes in the Class A tournaments, though both squads will have plenty of opportunities to get on the board Saturday.

Doddridge County currently leads the Class A boys meet with 35 points, while Magnolia has 32 points in leading the Class A girls chase.

Both the Class AA and Class A tournaments have completed six of the 18 total events through Friday.

The Hedgesville boys and Ripley girls are leading the Class AAA meets after five completed events.

Full details of how Mason County fares at the 2017 WVSSAC track and field championships will be available in the Tuesday sports edition of the Point Pleasant Register.
