WVSSAC track meet under way

Day 1 of the 2017 WVSSAC track and field championships are in the books … and it’s already been a memorable weekend for Point Pleasant. Senior Aislyn Hayman closed out a stellar career by winning both the shot put and discus championships during Friday’s Class AA finals. Hayman had a winning throw of 40 feet, 11 inches in the shot put to win her first-ever state crown, then posted a winning heave of 133 feet even in the discus to complete the double-A throwing sweep. Hayman became the first Lady Knight to win a state title since the duo of Alea Hipes and Mallory Nowlin both came away with individual championships back in 2008. Both PPHS and Wahama competed in 20 total events on Friday at Laidley Field, and those two programs will once again be busy during the finale on Saturday. Details from the 2017 WVSSAC track and field championships will be available in the Tuesday sports edition of the Point Pleasant Register. (Bryan Walters/OVP Sports)
