MERCERVILLE, Ohio — It’s not how you start something, but rather how you finish it.

A 16-0 run over the middle quarters allowed visiting Trimble to overcome an early seven-point deficit Monday night following a 30-17 victory over the South Gallia girls basketball team in a Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division matchup in Gallia County.

The host Lady Rebels (1-5, 0-5 TVC Hocking) dropped their fifth consecutive decision, while the Lady Tomcats (2-4, 2-3) picked up their second straight win in the low-scoring affair.

SGHS received five points from Aaliyah Howell during a 7-2 first quarter run in which the Red and Gold held Trimble without field goal.

THS, however, responded with a 9-0 second quarter surge — led by Sydney Hardy with five points — as the guests rallied to take an 11-7 edge into the break.

Kym Williams scored six of the Lady Cats’ seven points in the third canto, allowing Trimble to extend its lead out to 18-7 headed into the final period of play.

Williams tacked on another seven points during a small 12-10 run to end regulation and South Gallia never closed to within single digits in the 13-point setback.

Three of the Lady Rebels’ seven field goals came from behind the arc and the hosts were also 0-of-2 at the free throw line.

Howell led the hosts with five points, followed by Christine Griffth with four points. Erin Evans and Kiley Stapleton were next with three markers apiece, with Olivia Hornsby completing the scoring with two points.

Trimble — which went 5-of-19 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter — finished the night 9-of-29 from the stripe for 31 percent. The guests also netted only one trifecta out 10 total made baskets.

Williams led THS with 13 points, followed by Sydney Hardy with eight points Breanna Brammer with five markers. Emily Ward and Kaitlyn Spears completed the winning tally with two points each.
