PROCTORVILLE, Ohio — In a matchup of former Ohio Valley Conference foes, Thursday night’s affair was simply one-sided.

In pitching a first-quarter shutout, and scoring at least 15 points in every quarter, the host Fairland Lady Dragons dispatched the River Valley Lady Raiders 73-34 in a non-league girls basketball tilt.

Fairland landed a 15-0 first-period punch, then by almost identical counts of 21-7 and 21-6, tripled the Lady Raiders’ output in the middle two quarters.

Fairland led 36-7 at halftime and 57-13 following three frames, before River Valley scored 21 points of its own in the final stanza.

The contest marked the season opener for Fairland, while the Lady Raiders fell to 0-2.

River Valley is a former member of the OVC, but begins its third season in the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division.

Emily Chapman, who poured in a game-high 20 points for the Dragons, drained four second-quarter three-pointers — and knocked down two more in the third.

In all, the Dragons drilled 11 triples — including one apiece by Allie Marshall, Harley Lyons, Bailey Roland, Kelsie Warnock and Issy McKinney.

They also sank 12-of-13 free throws, and held a 25-10 advantage in total field goals.

Marshall, on three field goals and 3-of-3 free throws, also had double figures for Fairland with 10.

Taylar Wilson, with three field goals and 3-of-4 freebies, netted nine — while Alesha Simpson, on three field goals and 2-of-2 foul shots, added eight.

Lyons landed all seven of her points in the fourth.

Erin Jackson, on six total field goals and 5-of-8 free throws, led the Lady Raiders with 18 points.

She scored a dozen of those in the fourth, as River Valley only played six girls.

She and Jaden Neal, who had five fourth-quarter points, nailed the club’s only threes.

Jessie Steele, on two field goals and 6-of-8 free throws, scored 10 points.

Beth Gillman made a foul shot as well.

The Raiders had their home opener on Saturday against non-league Jackson.
