Quartet of Rio runners named Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four runners representing the University of Rio Grande women’s cross country team have been named 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced that 335 student-athletes have been recognized.

Representing the RedStorm on the list were senior Alex Ellis and the junior trio of Rachel Ball, Keri Lawrence of Reedsville and Andrea Hunt.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Dordt (Iowa) led all schools with 10 honorees.
