POINT PLEASANT—Despite dark clouds threatening rain all day, skies cleared on Saturday for the 2013 Point Pleasant High School graduation, which was held outdoors at Riverfront Park.
After a welcome to all staff, graduates, and friends and family from Anna Leonard, student council president, class salutatorian Shanna Noel Hunter took the podium. She cited the “endless love and support of family members and teachers” in helping her and her classmates through the past four years.
“It seems like yesterday that we were nervous and excited freshmen,” Hunter said, adding that this is just the beginning. “It’s the beginning of adulthood.”
Hunter said that she wished all the graduates the best of luck. She was succeeded at the podium by the co-valedictorians, Josie Fisher and Clarissa Alabi-Isama, who jointly welcomed everyone and took turns speaking.
“It is truly an honor to be co-valedictorian,” Fisher said. “We are filled with bitterweet emotions, but one thing we know for sure is that we’ve achieved great things.”
Fisher and Alabi-Isama talked about the academic and athletic accomplishments of the 2013 class, as well as the prowess of the Point Pleasant High School band.
Fisher said, “We have earned the right to be proud and confident, and we have a commitment to excellence.”
Alabi-AIama added that no matter what the graduates choose to do after graduation, each one has the opportunity to be a success.
“Whether we are going to college or heading straight into the workforce, our lives are truly what we make of them.” Alabi-Isama said.
“Remember, we are all going through the same things,” added Fisher, “We are not alone on this journey.”
The girls concluded their joint speech by saying in unison, “We’ll see you!”
Suzanne Dickens , superintendent of the Mason County Schools, read the acceptance of the 2013 graduates, and Tom Nunnery, president of the Mason County School Board announced the graduates, who are as follows:
