In addition to characters among the undead, the antics in “The Last Zombie” also include a few “hippie” characters as well as a chicken with narcolepsy. Here, a group of the tie-dyed characters gather around the narcoleptic chicken who has just woken up from another sleeping spell.

POINT PLEASANT — While some have their strategy for a zombie apocalypse already in place, those still in the planning stages may learn a few survival tips tonight at Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School (PPJSHS).
Beginning tonight, Nov. 8, PPJSHS drama students will present an original play, a comedy written by theater teacher Kitty Kaylor, titled “The Last Zombie” at 7:30 p.m. in the Wedge Auditorium. Tickets will be $5 and are available at the door.
There will also be performances at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11. The student actors will also perform twice on Friday for their fellow members of the student body.
According to Kaylor, “The Last Zombie” tells the story of a group of high school students in a place called Rooster Comb. In Rooster Comb, there was an incident at the school where the school cooks received fruit which was infected by gnats, which in turn infected the cooks and turned them into zombies. Kaylor continued, saying it’s a story of survival, heroes, and working as a team.
Kaylor stated there were around 40 students involved with the production, including students from 7-12 grades. Cast members include Ben Luckeydoo, Andromeda Arnott, Bree McCullough, Alan Jones, Corey Leonard, Avery Daugherty, Nicole Williams, Brady Taylor, Ayla Edwards, Shane Ward, Charles Adkins, Charity King, Kris Presley, Michaela Wamsley, Mary Grace Workman, Taylor Porter, Faith King, Samantha Machir, Travis Leonard, Emily Kitchen, Marissa Rymer, Brandi Stroup, Chris Luckeydoo, Amanda Musgrave, Jacob Fultz, Brianna Shobe, Morgan McCarthy, and Jena McCarthy.
Kaylor also discussed writing plays for the students, saying she has written around 10 for the students, possibly more. Kaylor said PPJSHS students usually perform two plays a year, one royalty play and one play that she has written in order to save some money, but also to help cater to the current students she has.
Kaylor further discussed some of her students, stating the students who are juniors this year have been with her since they were in seventh grade and are performing in several of the lead roles in this show. Kaylor also said following their senior year next year, several are planning to pursue theater as a career.
Kaylor and several students also noted that all the proceeds from ticket sales will go back to help fund PPJSHS’s next play and encourages all to attend and help support the arts in Mason County Schools.
