MASON — With technology advancing more each day, Wahama High School (WHS) is doing its part to keep up with the times by installing a new digital sign for the school.
Mike Wolfe, Technology Integration Specialist for Wahama, stated Wahama previously had wooden signs with the school’s name advertised on them, but said since they were facing the road they were often easily missed until one had already driven by. It was reported the new sign will not only help identify the school and serve as an attractive landmark, the digital sign will also help advertise programs and other events happening at the school.
According to Wolfe, Farmer’s Bank and Ohio Valley Bank were both major contributors to the installation of the new sign, which Wolfe also mentioned cost around $15,000.
“We’re very appreciative of Farmer’s Bank and Ohio Valley Bank for supporting the bend area and Wahama High School,” Wolfe said.
In addition to the funds from these area banks, it was reported other donations and grants also went to help fund the sign. According to WHS Assistant Principal Melissa VanMeter, additional funds were received from AEP with Gavin, Mountaineer, and Sporn power plants, as well as some help from West Virginia State Senator Karen Facemyer.
In addition to Wolfe and VanMeter, those reportedly involved with the sign project were WHS Principal Kenny Bond, and representing Farmers Bank was Mike Lieving and representing Ohio Valley Bank were Mario Liberatore and Frieda Greathouse.
