POINT PLEASANT — Voters in the City of Point Pleasant elected their next four years of government on Tuesday with Republicans winning the majority of votes.

Current Mayor Brian Billings who was appointed to his position in 2009 was elected to the post with 793 votes which is 63 percent of the vote. Democratic challenger Tom McNeely had 447 votes which is 36 percent of the vote.

In the race for City Clerk, Current Clerk Amber Tatterson who was also appointed to her position in 2009 was elected to the post with 806 votes which is 65 percent of the vote. Democratic challenger Brandy Barkey Sweeney received 430 votes which is 34 percent of the vote.

Republicans also took the two council-at-large seats up for grabs with Charles Towner getting 630 votes and Janet Hartley getting 572 votes. Democrats Kevin Nott and Ashley Taylor Wood received 536 and 373 votes, respectively.

Ward One — Douglas Tawney, 50 votes; Jim Fetty, 30 votes.

Ward Two — Robert Doeffinger, 35 votes; Danny R. Spurlock, 32 votes.

Ward Three — Allen Moran, 63 votes; Mary Perdue, 56 votes.

Ward Four — C. Keith Sargent, 113 votes; Brandon Sweeney, 83 votes.

Ward Five — Elaine Hunt, 116 votes.

Ward Six — Linda W. Smith, 118 votes; Brook R. Kapp, 83 votes.

Ward Seven — Bob Rulen, 116 votes; Randy Hall, 82 votes.

Ward Eight — Rick Simpkins, 115 votes; Jacob G. Hill, 110 votes.

Each of the officials elected begin their four-year terms on July 1.
