POINT PLEASANT — A well-known physician in the area is reopening his practice in a new location after a tumultuous few months.

Dr. Mark Nolan, longtime OB/GYN in Mason County, plans on reopening his practice on Monday, Oct. 29 at his new location at 809 Willow Lane (the old W.Va. State Police barracks), independent of employer Valley Health.

As of last week, Nolan was reportedly nearing the end of his relationship with Valley Health. However, he did say Valley Health asked him to continue his employment with them but he felt as though it was best to go out on his own.

As reported, in August, patients who had appointments with Nolan showed up at his former office at Pleasant Valley Hospital to find a new doctor in his place and Nolan’s office staff gone. Nolan was, at the time, treating patients at PVH in offices rented by Valley Health. Nolan was placed on a two-week paid leave for unspecified reasons by Valley Health, according to Kara Fetty, a medical assistant for Nolan who spoke to The Point Pleasant Register at the time. The Point Pleasant Register attempted to contact Valley Health about the situation but was not successful.

Back in August, Fetty, as well as Nolan’s wife Brenda and Kathy Hall, Nolan’s office assistant, were all terminated by Valley Health, according to Fetty. Valley Health then moved a new doctor into Nolan’s office to see patients, patients who weren’t very happy having their OB/GYN switched without notice, according to Fetty.

Many of these patients are now relieved to find out Nolan is back and is reopening his practice, Fetty said. As of last week, Nolan’s available appointments were filling up fast. Nolan, along with his wife and staff have been working to remodel the new office, putting in new flooring, painting the walls and placing equipment. The new facility will have one lab, there exam rooms and a procedure room. As he has for several years, Nolan will continue to work with PVH and deliver babies at the facility — PVH was not involved in the situation between Valley Health and Nolan. The reason Nolan didn’t rent new office space at PVH was there simply was none, Brenda said.

Nolan will reopen with the same staff and he said he wants his patients to know, “We’ve missed them all, we appreciate their concern for us and we’re looking forward to taking care of them.”
