MASON — A fire on Sunday evening in Mason has left a home completely destroyed.
According to Mason Fire Chief Paul Johnson, the home of Jody Scarberry on the corner of 3rd and Brown Street was destroyed and was not livable following the fire on Sunday. Johnson said the fire started in the in living room of the home, though the cause was still undetermined as of Monday afternoon. Johnson also noted it was still undetermined if the fire was accidental, stating they were awaiting a report from the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Responding to the fire were Mason and New Haven Fire Departments. Johnson said they were called out at 7:33 p.m. and remained on the scene until approximately 11 p.m. Johnson said there were no injuries and there was one person at the house when the fire started, though he didn’t know who.
Johnson also noted Mason Fire Department was recalled to the scene on Monday morning and remained on the scene for approximately a half an hour.
Streets were also closed down during the fire, which Johnson said are now back open.
