POINT PLEASANT — Shortly before the livestock sale last week at the Mason County Fair, young people who participate in 4-H and FFA were recognized for their hard work.
A variety of trophies, cash awards and plaque presentations took place in the show ring to honor the achievements of these Mason County youth.
This year’s top 4-H exhibitor was Kathy Kirby followed by Sarah Deem. These awards were presented by Lorrie Wright, WVU extension program assistant.
Next up, the Donnie Hill Awards were presented to Nena Hunt of 4-H and Evan Wilson of FFA. These awards were presented by 4-H Leader Linda Roush and Wright.
Winners of the Sonny Fry Memorial Award were Evan Wilson and Dakota Baker. Darla Walbrown presented this award on behalf of the Fry family.
The Harold Ridenour Memorial Award was presented by Ridenour’s widow Beverly to Trevor Porter.
Next up, the Bill McDermitt Memorial Award went to Rebekah Dunham and was presented by Anna, Brian and Jonathan McDermitt.
Also taking home awards, Keaton Thompson who won the Ashley McDaniel Memorial Award. Thompson also won first place in the junior showmanship in market hog. Colton Arrington won the John McCausland Memorial Award. Arrington also won first place junior showmanship in market steer.
Amanda Chesson won $500 from Eastman’s Foodland which sponsored the Born and Raised Hog Award. Chesson was presented her award by Kevin and Brent Eastman of Eastman’s Foodland. Miranda Chapman won $500 from Bob’s Market and Greenhouses which sponsored the Born and Raised Goat Award. Chapman was presented her award by Leonard Koenig of Bob’s Market and Greenhouses.
Brock McClung won $500 from Williamson Pallets which sponsored the Born and Raised Feeder Calf Award. McClung was presented his award by Mario Liberatore on behalf of the Williamson family. Ashten Crank won $1,000 from Ohio Valley Bank which sponsored the Born and Raised Steer award. Crank was presented her award by Kathy Bowser and Mario Liberatore of OVB. Emma Rice won $500 from City Ice and Fuel which sponsored the Born and Raised Lamb Award. Rice was presented her award by Vickie Walker, Kennade and Keith Pridemore of City Ice and Fuel.
