GLENWOOD — A week after five people were arrested during a drug bust in Ashton, eight people were taken into custody in Glenwood on Saturday and are now facing criminal charges in relation to another drug bust investigated by the Mason County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Greg Powers said seven people were arrested by his department on Saturday and an eighth person was arrested by the West Virginia State Police after a search warrant was executed at a residence along W.Va. 2 in Glenwood - the warrant was obtained after an investigation by the sheriff’s department. Those arrested are now facing charges ranging from fleeing, to possession, to operating or attempting to operate a meth lab.

Arrested at the scene by personnel with the sheriff’s department were Jamie Bush, age unreported, Cameron Deal, 22, and Joshua McFann, 22, all each charged with fleeing; Samantha Hale, 32, and Charles Shaffer, 33, each charged with operate or attempting to operate a clandestine lab; Amy Johnson, 34, charged with obstruction; Dale Hughes, age unreported, charged with possession of a schedule II narcotic, receiving and transferring stolen goods. Powers said Jerry Chapman, 26, was also arrested at the scene by troopers with the W.Va. State Police but no information on his criminal charge was available at press time.

Powers also said, a warrant was being issued for the Glenwood property owner, Ariscelene Fowler, who is facing a charge of operate or attempt to operate a clandestine drub lab.

Over the weekend, the sheriff’s department was still processing the case and more information on the bust and those arrested will be made available on Monday. Powers said those arrested by his department were transported to the Western Regional Jail and were expected to be arraigned on Sunday in Mason County Magistrate Court. The five suspects arrested last weekend in Ashton are set to appear in Mason County Magistrate Court on Monday, March 25 for their preliminary hearings.

Powers said drugs are obviously an issue for the county and his department doesn’t intend to stop working on these types of cases to at least slow down and hopefully eventually get this problem stopped.

Also assisting on the scene of Saturday’s drug bust, personnel with the W.Va. State Police.
