POINT PLEASANT —The camera has caught another incident of alleged vandalism on tape at Riverfront Park.
According to the tape, last Friday around 2 p.m., two adults and one juvenile, all of whom law enforcement say attend Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School, entered the men’s bathroom and allegedly caused damage to the facility.
Point Pleasant Police Chief Ernie Watterson said he hasn’t received the damage estimate on the property yet but he anticipates it to be minimal. However, he said the suspects left behind a mess to clean up which included damaging the bathroom stall’s partition with a rock collected from behind the building, ripping the soap dispenser from the wall, damaging the baby changing table and stringing toilet paper throughout the room.
The city’s cleaning lady discovered the disheveled bathroom later Friday evening. Watterson said the Point Pleasant Police Department was alerted and reviewed the tape which shows the suspects entering the restroom but obviously does not reveal what happened inside the restroom. The tape allegedly shows one suspect carrying in the large rock.
After reviewing the tape, Watterson said his department printed off pictures of the suspects and worked with officials from Mason County Schools to identity the two adults and one juvenile.
Watterson said the suspects have been interviewed and will be charged pending the city receiving the estimate on the damage done to the restroom. At that time names of the adult suspects can be released.
Watterson said though this incident didn’t involve major damages, the important aspect to remember was the camera does work at Riverfront Park, both for the safety of those who use the Riverfront Park and for the upkeep of the park itself.
The men’s restroom has been reopened. The women’s restroom was not damaged.
