The smell of success

POINT PLEASANT — Point Pleasant’s latest business is hoping it has the smell of success and that smell is the aroma of coffee beans.

Coffeehouses have been showing up on groovy corners in small towns across America for years and now Point Pleasant has finally caught up to that trend.

The Coffee Grinder has opened at 217 Sixth St. across from the Mason County Courthouse. In addition to all types of speciality and gourmet coffees, the Coffee Grinder also serves homemade baked goods and seasonal lunch items such as soup, sandwiches and salads.

Stepping into the Coffee Grinder is like stepping into a coffeehouse which could be found in any large, urban city with its wood floors, new tables, flat screen television, plush couch, and, of course, free Wifi. Though the atmosphere and amenities feel as if the place could be found in a big city, the Coffee Grinder has photographs of local landmarks on the walls to celebrate Point Pleasant and has a laid back vibe.

Christa Grady, of the Coffee Grinder, said the idea of bringing a coffeehouse to Point Pleasant was done to “offer the community something different.”

Grady’s mother and business partner Barbara Brumfield agreed, saying she had always enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of coffee shops and wanted to recreate that in Point Pleasant. She hopes the business will also eventually be able to host nights of poetry and music, just as many other coffeehouses do across the country.

Brumfield said the Coffee Grinder purchases all its coffee from Old Village Roaster out of Huntington which sells its coffee across the state, including at Tamarack. These locally roasted beans are then used for everything from regular coffee to espresso and other flavored coffees. In addition, the Coffee Grinder also sells herbal teas.

The Coffee Grinder is open from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturdays. Call 304-593-9922 or visit the Coffee Grinder on Facebook for more information. In addition to Christa and Barbara, the Coffee Grinder is also owned and operated by Dennis Brumfield and B.J. Grady.
