MORGANTOWN — Ten students from the Mason County Career Center (MCCC) have qualified to compete for the state of West Virginia at the National Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Leadership conference.
Going up against 700 other West Virginia students, a total of 25 students from the MCCC traveled to Morgantown to compete at the West Virginia State Leadership Conference, and by placing first or second place in their respective categories, ten students are now eligible to compete at the national level. Those ten students are Zach Carry, Hope Smith, Rebekah Donohew, Harley Ziegler, Andy Fairchild, Devin Kincaid, Brandon Russell, Amanda King, Jennifer Westfall, and Brandon Mattox.
At this state-based competition, students are able to compete in events that test their business knowledge and skills. They are also able to attended business workshops on topics such as resume building, professionalism, and skills needed in today’s workforce.
The following MCCC students competed in the state competition in the following categories: Nick Calandros, Accounting II; Zach Carry and Hope Smith, Business Ethics (placed second in state); Maggie Criste, Public Speaking 1; Anthony Darst and Rachel Sayre, Desktop Publishing; Rebekah Donohew and Harley Ziegler, Digital Design and Promotion (placed first in state); Andy Fairchild, Business Calculations (placed first in state); Sarah Gandee, Business Math; Devin Kincaid and Brandon Russell, Marketing (placed first in state); Amanda King, Client Services (placed first in state); Emily Kitchen, Job Interview; Lauren Lanier, Impromptu Speaking; Samantha Machir, Help Desk; Sam Martin, Intro to Business; Sabrina Matteson, Spreadsheet Applications; Katelyn Miller and Mary Grace Workman, Business Ethics; Chase Nicholson, Business Law; Riken Nowlin, Business Communications; Ashtyn Wedge, Public Speaking 1; Jennifer Westfall and Brandon Mattox, Digital Design and Promotion (placed second in state). Advisers accompanying the students were Lorita Carr, Mitch Meadows, and Kathy Rollins.
The ten who placed first or second in their category will compete for the state of West Virginia at the National FBLA Leadership Conference from June 29-July 2 in San Antonio, Texas.
