POINT PLEASANT — Named by “Orlando Weekly” as the “Best New Band” of Orlando, Fla. in 2011, The Woolly Bushmen will take the Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta’s main stage on June 29.
The band will perform its free concert starting at 7 p.m. at Point Pleasant Riverfront Park.
The band has ties to the area via member Jacob Miller of Point Pleasant. Miller, along with brothers Simon and Julian Palombi of Cleveland, Ohio, met in late 2010. The three-piece garage rock act The Woolly Bushmen then formed in Winter Park, Fla. in January 2011 and began playing live shows in April 2011.
Simon plays organ, guitar and sings the tunes. Julian plays drums and sings, too. Jacob plays guitar and bass guitar.
Soon after, The Woolly Bushmen played most major Florida cities with many great local, national and international acts. Again, the central Florida publication “Orlando Weekly” named The Woolly Bushmen “Best New Band” of Orlando in 2011.
The Woolly Bushmen are releasing their debut self-titled, self-recorded album June 25.
The Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta has booked some major talent for several free concerts this year, including Country Singer Kip Moore who performs at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 28. Striking Matches will open for Moore at 7 p.m. that same night at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater.
Then, on Friday, June 29, the 1960’s and 70’s tribute act The Devonshires take the stage at 8:30 p.m., following the Woolly Bushmen who open the show for them at 7 p.m. at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater.
On Saturday, June 30, at 6 p.m., BlueGrass will perform at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park; then at 6 p.m., the WBYG Texaco Country Showdown will take place at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater; and at 8:30 p.m., Chase Likens, finalist from American Idol and hometown boy, will perform at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater.
Fireworks are at 10 p.m. at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park with Rockin’ Reggie rocking Main Street afterwards.
