POINT PLEASANT — The first season ticket to the Mason County Fair has been sold though plenty more remain.

Scott Barnitz of Bob’s Market and Greenhouses was the first to purchase a season pass. Bob’s Market and Greenhouses have been a supporter of the fair for years.

“We’re proud to support the best county fair in West Virginia,” Barnitz said.

Bob’s Market in Mason is one of the many places season tickets can be purchased this year. Other locations include: BB&T, City National Bank in Mason, New Haven and Point Pleasant, Farmers Bank in Mason and Point Pleasant, Foodland, Fruth Pharmacy, Health Aid Pharmacy, Ohio Valley Bank, Peoples Bank on Main Street and the North Branch in Point Pleasant, Southern States, Thompson’s, Yauger Farm Supply or see any fair board of directors or officers.

This year’s season passes are $25 (this does not include the carnival) though a carnival ride ticket may be purchased for an additional $5 per day. Daily admission is otherwise $7 Monday-Thursday (carnival included). On Friday and Saturday admission is $8 per person (carnival included). Admission is free for those under three years of age.

Senior Citizens Day will be Tuesday of fair week and all seniors over the age of 60 are admitted free. Discount days will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the Wednesday and Thursday of fair week, with admission at $5 per person (includes carnival rides). Season ticket holders can purchase a ride ticket for $3 if purchased before 3 p.m. on these discount days.

All concession stand workers, exhibitors, fair officials and workers, including officers and board of directors will be required to present tickets to be admitted at the gate.

This year’s Mason County Fair is Aug. 6 - 11. The fair board has booked some major entertainment this year, including county singer Jerrod Niemann who will take the stage at 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11. Niemann reached the top of the country charts in 2010 with the song “Lover, Lover” which was followed by “What Do You Want” going to number four. Then in 2011 his song “One More Drinking Song” went to number 13 on the charts and his latest song “Shinin’ on Me” has recently been released.

Also entertaining at the fair will be Pam Tillis who takes the stage at 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10. Known as one of Nashville’s sweethearts, Tillis’ best known song is “Mi Vida Loca” which went to number one for her in 1995. Then, at 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, the daughter of two of country music’s biggest legends will take the stage to do some singing of her own - Georgette Jones. The only child of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Georgette is following in her parents’ footsteps in trying to make a name for herself in country music. Lovers of southern gospel music will not be forgotten at the fair when the Mark Trammell Quartet takes the stage at 9 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7.

In addition, a night of popular, local entertainers will take the stage on Wednesday, Aug. 8. Starting at 6 p.m., local crowd pleaser Paul Doeffinger takes the stage, followed at 7:30 p.m. by the rock and blues group Bunkhammer and then at 9 p.m. Joey D and the Dub V’s will perform their take on today’s popular hits.

Also, at 8 p.m. Monday night, the fair queen contest takes over the stage.

The Mason County Fair remains the largest county fair in the state of West Virginia.
