POINT PLEASANT —Mason County’s Clerk was recently honored with the Lighthouse Award at the West Virginia Association of Counties board meeting.
Diana Cromley accepted the award which represents guidance and leadership in the Association of Counties as well as within the recipient’s county.
At a previous Mason County Commission meeting, commissioners acknowledged Cromley’s recent award and recognition with Cromley saying she was honored to have been chosen as a recipient.
Back in 1999, the Board of the WV Association of Counties voted to initiate an annual recognition of a county official and present him/her with the Lighthouse Award. Then, in 2002, the Board of Directors approved changing the name of the award to the Richard Shelton Memorial Award, honoring the founder of the WV Association of Counties.
The presidents of each member association serve as the nominating committee for this award and then the recipient is selected by a vote of that of the WV Association of Counties Board of Directors. The Lighthouse Award is presented every year at the annual meeting luncheon.
Previous Award Recipients are: Commissioner Rick Rice, Assessor Tom Aiello, Circuit Clerk Betsy Castle, Assessor Dana Lynch, Sheriff William R. Laird IV, Prosecuting Attorney Sam Hall, County Clerk Bob Pasley, Circuit Clerk Patsy Noland, Sheriff Danny Moore, County Clerk Janice Cosco, and Circuit Clerk Jean Friend, and County Clerk Jeff Waybright.
