POINT PLEASANT — The new facility for Point Pleasant High School’s wrestling program is about two weeks from being completed though one important piece is missing — the facility’s name.

The PPHS Wrestling Boosters are hoping someone or some entity from the community will step up and made a minimum donation of $5,000 for the naming rights to the building. The purchase of these naming rights will not only mean a piece of history for the purchaser but will allow the PPHS Wrestling Boosters to wrap up the construction costs of the building and replenish a fund which has been basically depleted from this ambitious, but worthwhile, project.

PPHS Wrestling Coach John Bonecutter said when all is said and done, the new facility will likely cost a little over $60,000. The wrestling facility is adjacent to the football building near the back of PPJ/SHS. The entire project has been funded by the boosters and the community which has contributed not only funds but volunteer labor.

“There’s no way we would be where we are without the community,” Bonecutter said.

The new PPHS wrestling facility was built with the community in mind, with a vision of it being home to not only grapplers from PPJ/SHS but those in the youth wrestling league. This will not only provide young people with a safe place to learn their sport but foster the talents of current and future champions.

Championships have become synonymous with the PPHS wrestling program. The team recently achieved three back-to-back state championship titles, not to mention the individual championships Point grapplers have achieved over the years.

Construction on the new facility began April 1 and it’s been a long journey but Bonecutter said he believes it’s going to be worth it and “we’ll (Boosters) be glad we did” take that leap and give those in the local wrestling community a permanent home.

For those who wish to make a donation for the naming rights for the new facility, again, the minimum bid is $5,000 and bids will be taken into consideration until Nov. 12, the first day of the wrestling season. Call Bonecutter at 304-593-1562 or Debbie Powell at 304-553-2787 for more information.
