Marion Blumenthal Lazan
POINT PLEASANT — A major event in history, the Holocaust continues to be a common subject in schools and a chance to hear first-hand what that time was really like for one family is coming to Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School (PPJSHS).
Award winning author and Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan will be coming to share her story with PPJSHS students, and community members are also invited to listen to her presentation beginning at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 25, in the Lillian and Paul Wedge Auditorium. Lazan will be speaking with the high school students that morning, and then the seventh and eighth grade students during the afternoon presentation.
Lazan’s book, “Four Perfect Pebbles,” tells about her experiences as a nine-year-old child detained with her family in the German concentration camp of Bergen-Belsen, which is the same camp in where Anne Frank died. While Anne Frank left no other writing after her family’s arrest in Holland, it was stated that during her presentation Lazan will explain the events which led up to her family’s incarceration and will describe in detail what life was like behind the barbed wire.
Lazan’s mission is to share her story with as many students as possible. According to her website, she states more than just facts in her presentation and her story is not one of despair, but of hope. Lazan applies the lessons she learned to today’s society, asking others to be tolerant and not stereotypical of others based on their beliefs, color, race, or national origin.
Lazan will speak for approximately 45 minutes and allow time for audience questions for 15-30 minutes. Her visit is sponsored by the PPJSHS Student Council, PPJSHS Faculty Senate and the Gordon C. and Mildred R. Jackson Foundation of Our Community’s Foundation.
