Sheriff’s department makes three drug arrests

MASON — The Mason County Sheriffs Department made three separate arrests involving drugs over the weekend.

Cpl. C.A. Varian, Deputy Powell and Deputy R.H. Glenn are members of the sheriff’s department that made a drug sweep on Saturday, June 13. According to a news release, the drug sweep began in the mid-afternoon and went through the evening hours.

Deputies arrested Amy Jo Smith of Point Pleasant, Mary Francis Evans of Point Pleasant and Arthur Petrie of Point Pleasant. Smith was arrested in the Mason Motel in Mason for a capias warrant, while Evans was arrested for possession of heroin and received two fugitive from justice warrants from Gallia and Lawrence County, Ohio.

Veronica Page Bailey from Point Pleasant and Jessica Woodall from Gallipolis, Ohio were charged with some misdemeanor charges pending investigation.

Petrie was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver felony in Point Pleasant.

According to a news release, deputies seized approximately a half pound of marijuana and other drugs such as heroin, crack cocaine as well as hundreds of marijuana seeds that were ready for manufacturing marijuana. Several items used in making drugs, such as scales pipes and other items also were found.

Approximately $2,500 in drugs were seized.
