POINT PLEASANT — A New Haven woman who was arrested for stealing another person’s identity had the charges dismissed in magistrate court Monday.
Earlier this month, Amanda Nicole Jones, 25, was arrested by the West Virginia State Police for two counts each of identity theft and forgery.
Jones was accused of allegedly filing two student loan applications with Direct Loans in September 2006 by using another person’s identity. The victim in the case filed a complaint with the state police, stating that he/she did not give Jones permission to use personal information or sign his/her name.
Jones was to appear before Mason County Magistrate Cheryl Ross with her attorney, Shannon Baldwin. The charges were dismissed and Jones has agreed to pay back the money.
• Another woman had charges against her dismissed in magistrate court Monday.
Last month, Cassy Lynn Hunter, 21, of Leon, was arrested by Point Pleasant police officers following a routine traffic stop. After conducting a consent search of the vehicle, officers found some prescription drugs.
Also arrested were Nathan D. Petrie, 19, of Point Pleasant, Robert Allen Jordan, 19, of Leon, Terry L. Roberts, 18, of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Eddie Wayne Hunter, 22, of Point Pleasant. All were arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
• A Mason man waived his preliminary hearing and remains in the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville.
Stoney Ryan Day, 29, was arrested April 25 by Patrolman Justin Veith of the Mason Police Department on a charge of grand larceny. His case has been bound over to circuit court.
• In circuit court Friday, Peter Alexander Higginbotham, 20, of Leon, and Joshua Wayne Tucker, 23, of Leon, agreed to enter guilty pleas. Both were indicted by the January grand jury on charges of burglary, petit larceny, breaking and entering, grand larceny and conspiracy.
They will appear before Judge Thomas C. Evans III May 11 to enter their pleas.
• Probation was reinstated for James Clark, who allegedly violated its terms. Clark also will participate in the Day Report Center program.
• On April 8, Judge David Nibert dismissed charges against Paul Wamsley, who was arrested in September for two counts of child abuse. The case had been bound over to the circuit court from magistrate court and has been removed from the docket.
