Board approves Wahama principal

POINT PLEASANT — Transfer of Kenny Bond from assistant principal to principal for 2009-10 at Wahama Junior Senior High School was approved when the Mason County Board of Education met Tuesday.

Bond was employed for 240 days as principal. His appointment was among a series of personnel actions taken by the board.

Employment of Jesse T. Voiers as an industrial equipment maintenance teacher at the Mason County Career Center was approved, pending full certification.

Jenna Meeks was approved as vocational agriculture teacher grades 7-12 at Hannan Junior Senior High School for 2009-10.

Resignations accepted by the board were submitted by Leah Burris, secretary III at the career center, effective June 23; James Toth, head junior high football coach at Wahama Junior High; and Kenberly Worley. teacher of English Language Arts 7-12 ans girls softball coach, effectiuve immediately.

The board approved transfer of Deborah B. Wilson, preschool needs teacher at Ashton Elementary to second grade teacher at Ashton; transfer of Connie Pyles, third grade teacher at Ashton to second grade at Ashton; transfer of Kerri Lewis, sixth grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary to sixth grade at Point Pleasant Intermediate School; and employment of Brian Savilla as social studies teacher 7-12 at Point Pleasant Junior Senior High School.

Also approved were deletion of the cook III position at Beale Elementary; approval of the position of .5 cook III at Beale; and approval of James Long as a .5 bus operator on Route 963 for the Leon attendance area.

In other action, the board:

• Approved the following supplemental positions on an as-needed basis: Cheryl Lyons, sign language interpreter; Dottie Wiley, special education teacher; Kelly Vernon, speech language path; Charlene Templeton, speech assistant; Jodi Dowell, visually impaired.

• Approved an agreement with Marshall University HELP Center-Severe Learning Disabled not to exceed $900 as needed during 2009-10.

• Approved up to 15 days of additional employment for Linda Rollins, administrative assistant to the superintendent.

• Approved up to 20 days of employment for Don Bower as assistant superintendent.

• Approved up to 10 days of additional employment for Jerry Molett, electronic technician, for 2009-10.

• Approved up to 10 days of additional employment for Dustin Gibbs, electronic technician, for 2009-10.

• Approved up to 10 days of employment for Richard Johnson, electronic technician, for 2009-10.

• Approved David M. Downing and John P. Casey as school bus operator trainers.

• Approved Gary Turner as assistant junior high football coach at Hannan High School.

• Approved David Jenkins as eighth grade girls basketball coach at Wahama High School.

• Approved John Bonecutter as head wrestling coach at Point Pleasant High School.

• Approved Ronald Wickline as head varsity softball coach at Point Pleasant High School.

• Approved Benjamin Grady as junior varsity baseball coach at PPHS.

• Reported the fiscal year-end balances of all local projects as unreserved-designated on the annual financial statements for the year ending June 30.

• Authorized budget supplements and transfers pending review and final approval at the next meeting for regular business, to allow the treasurer to meet fiscal demands between now and the end of the fiscal year.

• Approved the bid of 75 cents per bottle from Tri-County Vending for the water vending machine contract effective July 1.

• Approved purchase of a Depco Industrial PLC Training Center and a Depco Industrial Electricity and Electronics Training System for the Industrial Maintenance program at MCCC from Ronald A. Williams Ltd., at a cost of $20,645. A state vocational program is the funding source.

• Approved the low submitted proposal from Tri-State Paving and Sealcoating, Huntington, to provide all labor and materials to build a walking track at PPIS at a cost of $15,000.

• Approved the low submitted bid of $25,542 through the state contract by Pomeroy Computer resources for the purchase of 27 computer work stations for Beale Elementary.

• Approved renewal of the dental and vision insurance program from Delta Dental.

• Approved a $6,200 contract with Sullivan PLLC for agreed-upon procedures dealing with the performance of the school financial checklist of the state accounting procedures manual for the schools.

• Approved Alan Robinson as an approved driver for the upcoming school year.

• Approved the adjacent county transfers of Morgan Marsh to attend Jackson County Schools, and Brian and Bradley Gibbs to attend Mason County Schools.

• Approved an agreement between the board and Prestera Center for 2009-10.

• Approved out-of-state travel requests for staff at PPIS and PPPS to attend the U.S. Department of Education Reading Institute Conference in Cincinnati July 14-16.

• Approved the application for amendment of the PPHS Athletic Complex to be submitted to the West Virginia School Building Authority.

• Approved the interagency agreement between the board and Southwestern Community Action Council Inc. Child and Family Development Program.

• Next regular meetings are July 14 and 28, 6:30 p.m. at the MCCC.
