William H. Proffitt Sr., 85, of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at his home with his family at his side.

He was born June 8, 1924 in Mason County a son to the late Emory and Cora Vansickle Proffitt. He was a welder, a construction worker, a member of Boilermakers Local Union 667 of Charleston, and a Navy Veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Garnette Proffitt; one grandson, Matthew Call; one brother, Charles Proffitt; and sister, Sandra Gafken.

He is survived by her wife, Zelda Stover Proffitt; son, William (Buzzy) Proffitt Jr. of Point Pleasant; daughter, Penny and (Buck) Call of Huntington; grandchildren, Joey and (Dee Dee) Proffitt of Point Pleasant, Sarah Proffitt of Morgantown, Cynthia and Major (Larry) Workman of Belair, Md., Daniel (Ann Marie) Dempsey of Witmore Lake, Mich. and Chris Call of Huntington; four step grandchildren; one step great grandchild; one great great granddaughter, Rylie Workman; and one sister, Arnolda Carpenter of Point Pleasant.

Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Deal Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Smith and Rev. James Lawson officiating. Burial will be in the New Lone Oak Cemetery in Point Pleasant. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Sue Click for her care and friendship given to them during this time and in lieu of flowers, a donation can be give to the Pleasant Valley Hospice or Bellemead United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant.
