Wahama whips Bison, 58-22

BUFFALO, W.Va. — The Wahama White Falcons (8-2) clinched a playoff spot with a 58-22 victory over the Buffalo Bison. Wahama will have to wait until early next week to find out who thier tournament opponent will be, and the location of the game.

Wahama earned the victory Friday with 468 yard rushing effort, with the majority of the yards coming from Micaiah Branch and Ryan Lee. Unlike the Wahama offense, Buffalo focused most of their offense on a strong passing game mostly on the arm of Levi Jordan.

Wahama scored early in the first quarter on an eight yard run by Branch, with the extra point kick by Tyler Kitchen. Waham was up 7-0 less than two minutes into the game.

Buffalo answered with a touchdwon of their own on an 11 yard pass from Cameron Jones to Jarrett Smith. A two point conversion run by Levi Jordan gave the Bison a one point advantage.

Wahama quickly answered with another score by Branch, this one from 31 yards out to make the score 14-8 following the Kitchen extra point kick.

With just under four minutes left in the first quarter, Buffalo scored again, this time on a two yard run by Jones. Joseph Moore added the two point run to give the Bison the two point advantage.

Elijah Honaker added a third Wahama touchdown in the first quarter of play, with 10.7 seconds left, running it in from 13 yards out. Ryan Lee added the two point conversion run to give the White Falcons the lead 22-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter went scoreless until the 6:24 mark when Branch intercepted the Jordan pass, returning it 28 yards for the touchdown. The Wahama two point conversion attempt failed leaving the White Falcons ahead by a score of 28-16. The remainder of the second quarter saw neither team make it to the end zone.

The third quarter began with what would be the final touchdown for the Bison, a three yard run by Moore, with a failed two point conversion attempt. Buffalo trailed 22-28 after the score.

Wahama handed the ball off to Branch for two third quarter scores. The first came on a nine yard run with 6:55 remaining, and the second on a 38 yard run at the 1:55 mark. Branch added the two point conversions on both touchdowns. Wahama had doubled up the score on the Bison, leading 44-22 at the end of the third quarter of play.

The fourth quarter saw the White Falcon offense put an additional 14 points on the board. Anthony Graham added a two yard touchdown run just 46 seconds into the final quarter of play, with Lee adding the two point conversion run. Wahama made a final trip to the end zone with 7:47 remaining in the fourth quarter as Lee ran the ball 24 yard for the score. The two point conversion attempt failed leaving the White Falcons ahead by a 58-22 advantage.

Wahama was led in rushing by Branch who had 284 yards on 17 carries including four rushing touchdowns. Ryan Lee also had a triple digit rushing game with 163 yards on 18 carries. In the air, William Zuspan was 4-8 for 74 yard, all of which were to Tyler Kitchen.

For the Bison, Moore had 69 yards on seven carries, while Cameron Jones added 27 yards on seven carries. Levi Jordan was 11-32 in the air for 200 yards, with Moore having five receptions for 144 yards.

Wahama intercepted Jordan four times in the game, as well as recovering three of the four Bison fumbles. Wahama did not throw an inteception in the game, but fumbled three times with Buffalo recovering two of the fumbles.

The White Falcons were in a tie for ninth place going into Friday night’s contest, with the top eight teams hosting their first round playoff game. Wahama will have to wait until the first part of the week to find out the details of their playoff game.
