MASON — All area veterans are welcome to attend Wahama High School for an assembly and reception honoring their service to America on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

The hour-long assembly will begin at 9 a.m. in the school gymnasium and will feature special music, speeches written by students and a ceremony to personally honor all veterans in attendance and those either deceased or unable to attend. The school also will have a Wall of Honor with the names of area veterans.

Veterans will be hosted at a reception served by the Wahama Student Council and National Honor Society following the assembly.

According to Vice Principal Melissa Vanmeter, the assembly is a way for students to connect with the men and women who have devoted themselves in service to the country.

“Many of students can only read about the sacrifice and love of country these people have. Reading about war is not the same as talking to someone who has been there. This is our thank you to them for making our country great,” she said.

Wahama students have recently been involved in writing essays for various patriotic contests and learning about the importance of observing Veterans Day.

“Our students are excited about providing a ceremony that is not only meaningful, but expresses our deep sense of pride and gratitude in having so many Mason County residents who have answered the call to service,” Vanmeter said.

Any area veteran is welcome to attend. Those planning to attend must call the school to provide their name and branch of service in order for them to be recognized during the assembly.
