Sylvia Survilla Gilland, age 95, passed away on February 1, 2013.

She was born on December 24, 1917 to Charles and Ora Johnson in Hartford. She was the oldest of two children. Her brother, Otis Johnson preceded her in death.

Survilla met and married John Blaine Gilland and moved to New Haven. They had twin boys, Larry Blaine Gilland and Gary Wayne Gilland. Surviving today is her oldest son, Larry Gilland. Larry met and married Brenda Kirby and had a daughter Bethany. She married Richie Ranno and is residing in Fair Lawn, N.J. with their two children, Michael and Kayla Ranno. Gary met and married Karen Rottgen and had a daughter, Julia and her sister Judith. Julia is married to Chris Scherfel and is residing in Pomeroy, Ohio with their two children, Samuel and James Scherfel. Judith is married and is residing in Middleport, Ohio with her husband, Kurt Kleski.

Survilla was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Haven, faithfully attending services every week until illness prevented her continuing with her active life style. She gave unselfishly of her time with her volunteer hours at Pleasant Valley Hospital as a member of the Auxiliary. She must have made thousands of tray favors for patients in the hopes of brightening their days.

Services will be at Anderson Funeral Home in New Haven, Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in New Haven. Friends and family visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Survilla is survived by her son Larry Gilland and his wife Brenda; grandchildren Julia, Bethany and Judith; and her great-grandchildren, Samuel, Michael, James and Kayla.
