School Board meets, approves employment list

POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Board of Education met Tuesday night to approve of volunteers, employees, graduation dates and to get a report on the Youth Skate Board Project.

The project, which is still in its planning stages, was discussed by Point Pleasant City Council member Linda Smith. She asked the board for a land lease around the Ordnance ballfield. According to President Thomas Nunnery this project will further be discussed as plans move forward, but the city will have a skate park for the youth.

The dates and times for Wahama Jr. Sr. High School and Hannan Jr. Sr. High School graduations have been set. Wahama’s graduation will be at 7 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2010. Hannan’s seniors will graduate at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010. Point Pleasant will announce their date at a later meeting.

In other news:

• The Mason County Board of Education approved the agreement with Ohio Valley Bank and the Board accepted the donation of $70,000 from the bank in exchange for the exclusive naming rights for the track at Point Pleasant Jr. Sr. High School Athletic Complex.

Approvals:

• The Board approved of the 2009-2010 contracted service agreements for the following Marshall University Instructors: Mark Bowman, Timothy Roach, David Rutherford, Gregory Sojka, Hillary Weible and Michael Whalen.

• Drivers for the 2009-2010 year that were approved by the Board include Terry Bowman and Debra Powell. Their driving records have been checked by the WV Department of Motor Vehicles.

• Student teachers that were approved by the Board include: James Moody, Marshall University student to be placed at Wahama; and Miranda Fortner, University of Rio Grande student to be placed at Beale Elementary.

Employment:

• The Board approved the transfer of Mike Wolfe from Teacher, Special Education LD/MI/BD/Social Studies/Math, Wahama Jr. Sr. High School to Teacher, Community Work Based, Special Education LD/MI/BD.

• The Board approved the employment of Patricia Park, Federal Programs Coordinator 220 days at the Central Office effective Oct. 29, 2009.

• The following Substitute Teachers were approved by the Board. They include: Jeremy Smith, Teresa Atkinson, and Stephanie Killingsworth.

• Other approved employees include: Lori Thomas, Aide, Special Education/Bus/Supervisory, New Haven Elementary; George Shell, Bus Operator Route 2092; Bryan Faber, Athletic Assistant at Point Pleasant Jr. Sr. High School; Tim Potter, Athletic Assistant, Point Pleasant Jr. Sr. High School; Brent Larck, Athletic Assistant, Wahama Jr. Sr. High School; Tiffany Preston, Linda Corbin, Joseph Johnson, and Caitlin Towner, Tutorial Teachers; Anthony Toler, Alternative Education Teacher; Lorita Carr, Adult Night School Business/Computer Instructor, Mason County Career Center; and Dr. Karen Bare-Oldham, Principal Mentor.

The Board approved the following volunteers for the 2009-2010 school year.
