Dear Editor,

The storm and power outage that hit our area on June 29 will be remembered for quite some time. The hit-and-miss manner in which power was restored left many in the dark for days and days, in our case, thirteen days. K & D Diner in Gallipolis Ferry showed true community spirit on July 8 by providing a free spaghetti dinner for those in the area who were still without power. We were greeted with smiles and an excellent meal; and we felt like someone truly cared. It was a very heartwarming experience and a welcome relief on this tenth day without power. There were other such moments as neighbors helped neighbors, but you don’t expect a business to open its doors in this manner.

So as we remember the difficult days from this storm and power outage, we will also remember the kindness, generosity and sense of community from this local business.

Jo Ann Jones,

Gallipolis Ferry
