MASON COUNTY — A, B, C. Easy as 1, 2, 3.
It’s not just a song by the Jackson 5 — parents enrolling their children in Mason County School’s Pre-K Program can start to learn the alphabet and numbers, as well as social skills, and registration dates for the program have been set.
Dates for preschool registration at the following locations are as follows: Ashton Elementary, March 7, at the Valley Fire Department; New Haven Elementary, March 14 at the Faith Baptist Church in Mason; Leon Elementary, March 21, at the Leon Town Hall; Point Pleasant Primary, March 28 at the Central Gym beside the Board office; Beale Elementary, April 11, at the Henderson Community Center.
The make-up date for registration for the whole county will be April 18 at the Central Gym. All registration locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to a release from Early Education Station, parents whose children will be four years old by Sept. 1 can sign up their children for the program. Children who are three years old with a 25 percent delay in two or more areas may also be registered. In addition to children with severe needs are encouraged to enroll.
In order to register, parents need to bring their child’s certified birth certificate, income verification, shot record, and WV Health Checklist signed by a physician, which is available at a doctor’s office or online at www.dhhr.wv.gov/healthcheck. Forms are also available at any school registration, and the child does not need to be present to register.

In addition to preschool registration, Early Education Station also released information on “Big Truck Day,” set for 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Mason County Career Center. Parents and children attending will be able to view a variety of vehicles including a race car, dump truck, semi, fire truck, National Guard Truck, Sheriff, Ambulance, School Bus, ATV, Tractor, Back Hoe, and a “Life Flight” helicopter will also land during the event.
The following organizations will also have information at the event available to families: Healthy Families of America, Magic Years, Homeless Shelter, Head Start, Mason County Health Department, Mason County Family Resource Network, Save the Children, WV Birth to Three, and Early Education Station, and more.
