POINT PLEASANT — Mason County Board of Education members received an update on the status of the Point Pleasant Athletic Complex during its meeting Tuesday. Agenda items were also discussed during the regular session.

Ron Durst and Troy Krebs represented the athletic complex committee. According to Tom Nunnery, Board president, a positive report was given by Durst and Krebs.

The report stated that the eight-lane track is complete. The two committee members also reported that additional funds are being raised for the next phase of the athletic complex project.

Other agenda items:

• The Board approved the following drivers for the 2009-2010 year. They include Tanya Campbell, Jodi Dowell, Carla King, Kimberly Napora and Kelli Templeton.

• The Board approved the following volunteers for the following schools:

Beale Elementary — Sandy Buttrick and Mary Bechtle.

Hannan Jr/Sr High — Terry Camp, Jenny Jenkins, Mark Jenkins, Mamie Meadows, Sue Meadows, Earl Oldham, Al Rigsby, and Donna Rigsby.

Point Pleasant Intermediate — Sue Brady, James Halfhill, Nicholas Landry, Chuck Johnson, and Lauri Johnson.

New Haven Elementary — Karen Burns, William Burns, Hollie Griffith, Hollie Kearns, Rosalee Kearns, Amber May, Cathy Mayes, Sarah Mayes, Rebecca Roush, Cristi Roush, Pamela Shiltz, Laurel Sigman, Richard VanMeter, Elizabeth Wallen and Dawn Woolard.

• The Board approved the following Work-Based Learning businesses: Mason County Animal Shelter, Mason County EMS, Subway and Ashton Elementary.

• The Board approved out-of-state travel for teachers and students who will be attending career days, conferences and a forum.

• The Board approved the district-wide Parental Involvement Policy required under Federal Regulation (Section 118 (a) (2), ESEA) for Mason County Schools.

• The Board approved the following transfers: Stephanie Dickens, Teacher, Special Education LD/MI/BD/Science, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School to Teacher, Special Education LD/MI/BD, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, effective for the 2010-2011 school year; Kira Northup, Teacher, Special Education LD/MI/BD/Elementary Ed, New Haven Elementary to Teacher, Title I, New Haven Elementary, effective for the 2010-2011 school year; Amy Kammer, Teacher, Special Education LD/MI/Language Arts, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School to Assistant Principal, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, effective Nov. 12, 2009; and Dawn Bays, Teacher, Special Education LD/MI/BD, Leon Elementary to Teacher, Special Education LD/MI/BD Resource, Leon Elementary, effective Nov. 12, 2009; Lori Thomas, Aide Special Education/Bus/Supervisory, Central Office Itinerant (New Haven) to Aide, Autism Mentor/Bus/Supervisory, effective Nov. 12, 2009; and Joey Thompson, Bus Operator, Route 2031, Transportation Department to Bus Operator, Route 2014, Transportation Department, effective Nov. 12, 2009.

• The Board approved the following for employment effective for the 2009-2010 year: Lauren Gilley, Substitute Teacher; Aaron Faulk, Coach, Junior Varsity Basketball, Wahama Jr/Sr High School; Timothy S. Howard, Coach, Varsity Softball, Wahama Jr/Sr High School; Jesse T. Voiers, Adult Night Industrial Maintenance Instructor, Mason County Career Center; Shirley Kimble, Nancy Davison, Tammy Edmunds, and Ashley Regan, Tutorial Teachers, Central Office Itinerant; and John McCarty, Bus Operator, After School Activity Run, Route 35.

• The Board approved the request for financial assistance from Hannan Jr/Sr High School to be utilized for the Athletic Press Box/Athletic Department at the Hannan Athletic Field in the amount of $4,500. Funding to be provided by the Excess Levy Reserve for Capital Improvements.

• The Board approved the sale of auction items by sealed bid for the following: pole barn, $750, John Casey; small storage building, $601, Tom Wilson; and green house, $1,551, Larry Sayre.

• The Board approved Thermal Balance, Inc., of Lexington, Ky., to provide all the work necessary to test and balance the new HVAC systems for $9,920 for the Beale Elementary School Project. Funding will be provided by SBA Project Funds.

• The Board approved the purchasing of 12 HVAC units, a total of $10,272, from 2 J Supply of Huntington for Point Pleasant Primary School. Funding will be provided by Point Pleasant Primary Funds.

• The Board approved the purchasing of the renewal of mClass DIBELS K-6 license for all elementary schools from Wireless Generation. The annual student subscription is $6.50 per child and the annual software subscription is $6 per child. The total cost of the subscription is $26,375. Funding source will be AARA Title I and AARA Special Education.

The next board meeting will be a special session held at 5 a.m. on Nov. 16. The regular session will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 23. Both Mason County Board of Education sessions will be at the Mason County Career Center-Hartley Building.
