POINT PLEASANT — The 30th Texaco Country Showdown local competition, hosted by WBYG, concluded on Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Gallia County Junior Fair.

Of this year’s contestants, Brittany Franklin of Point Pleasant, proved victorious as she was named the showdown winner. During the competition, Franklin performed Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” and Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me”.

According to officials with WBYG, Franklin’s combination of musical talent, stage presence, charisma, musicianship and originality caught the attention of showdown judges Heather Crum, Leah Smith and Randy Parsons. With her local win, Franklin will compete at the Washington County Fair in Marietta, Ohio on Monday, Sept. 5. If she wins there, Franklin will advance to the state final of the Texaco Country Showdown and will have the opportunity to perform at one of five regional competitions this fall.
