POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant High School Color Guard, instructed by Jessica Loudin and Tebaliah Casto, recently ended their 2009 competition season.
The guard went from last year’s undefeated season as African warriors in the competition show “King Kong” to Irish dancers in this year’s show, “Riverdance.” The 10 hardworking and dedicated members were rewarded again this season with five more first place trophies.
The guard’s winning streak began at Spring Valley High School, where they earned first place in their class and first place over all, regardless of class. The excitement of their victory was followed by two more wins in their class, as well as overall, at both Wahama and Cabell Midland High Schools. The third weekend of competition, which was at Huntington High School, saw the color guard taking second in their class and third overall. The color guard then picked up another first place in their class at the Black Walnut Festival parade and field show competitions.
Finally, after a well earned two week break, the color guard competed at Marshall University’s Tri-State Band Competition. The competition featured 38 bands and color guards from the surrounding tri-state areas. The guard earned first place in their class. In addition, they took home first place overall, regardless of class, for the second year in a row.
After many long hours of practice, parades, football game performances and band competitions, the PPHS Color Guard is ready for a much deserved break. They are, however, looking forward to parade performance at Universal Studios in the spring when the band travels to Orlando and Coco Beach, Fla.
