Mary Watterson, 96, of Richwood, Ohio, died early Tuesday morning, July 26, 2011 at her home.

She was born Oct. 29, 1914 in Apple Grove, to the late Frank and Edna (Gillespie) Jacobs. On Sept. 29, 1931, she married Earl F. Watterson and he died July 26, 1985. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.

She had attended God’s Country Church. Mary loved animals. She was a devoted farm wife who loved raising cattle and chickens, and cared for all kinds of animals her entire life right up until she was no longer able. The matriarch and historian of her family, she loved to spin yarns about the old days living in Mason County. Many were touched by her wisdom and strength, and she will be sadly missed.

She is survived by two sons, Floyd Watterson, of Richwood, Ohio, and John (Sue) Watterson, of Grove City, Ohio; a daughter, Bernice Shoup, of Findlay, Ohio; three sisters, Edith Gallo, of Chicago, Ella, of Florida, and Eva Kinnard, of Grove City, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday, July 29 in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood, Ohio, where friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Pastor Matthew Craig will officiate. Graveside services will be Saturday, July 30 at 2 p.m. in the Beale Chapel Cemetery in Apple Grove, with visitation in the Beale Chapel from 1-2 p.m.
