POINT PLEASANT — While job hunting can be a loathsome process, four free seminars will soon be offered locally which might help ease the pain.

In conjunction with the Community Connect Foundation, the WV Library Commission, and the WV Association of Counties, these job and career development seminars will be offered at the Mason County Public Library. The four seminars offered will be as follows: Resume Writing, 11 a.m. to noon on March 26; Interview Skills, 2-3 p.m. on March 26; Internet Use, 11 a.m. to noon on March 27; and Introduction to Website Design, 2-3 p.m. on March 27.

In resume writing, those attending will learn how to develop, format, and draft a professional resume, as well as have their current resumes and cover letters reviewed by volunteers who will offer suggestions for improvement. Attendees are asked to bring a copy of their resume and cover letters.

Regarding interview skills, attendees will learn how to prepare for a job interview and how to sell yourself during the interview. Volunteers will also be present to answer questions, in addition to help practice the skills learned throughout the class.

Students attending the Internet use seminar will learn the basic uses of the Internet and how to access online resources through the WV Learning Express Library Portal. Volunteers will also be available for assistance and direction for those in the class who wish to practice on the library’s computers.

Those attending the last seminar on website design will learn the basics uses of online tools that will allow students to create a website. Volunteers will also be available for assistance and guidance for those wishing to practice on the library computers.

Additional information on these seminars will be available through the Learning Express Library and E-Books will be available through the WV READS E-Book consortium, which are both free to participants who have an active library card.

In addition to Mason County, seminars will also be held in Cabell, Harrison, Mercer, Greenbrier, Jackson, Marshall, Wood, Raleigh, Ritchie, and Upshur counties. The foundation received a grant from the WV Geological and Economic Survey which allowed these seminars to be held as well as the purchase E-books for the WV-READS Library eBook Consortia.
