CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Hannan volleyball team had its 2009 campaign come to a close Monday night after a pair of losses to Charleston Catholic and Huntington Saint Joseph in the Class A Region IV, Section I sectional tournament held at Charleston Catholic High School.
The Lady Wildcats lost to host CCHS by a 9-25, 0-25, 4-25 margin in the opening match, then went four games with St. Joe’s before falling 17-25, 18-25, 25-17, 19-25 in the finale.
Katie Ellis led HHS at the service line against CCHS with five points, followed by Samantha Blain with three points and Stephanie Dillon with two points. Megan Adkins, Jennifer Swan and Angelica Brumfield each had one service point in the setback.
Swan led the net attack with three blocks while Stephanie Dillon added one block. Hannan did not record a kill against Charleston Catholic. Brittany Edmonds led the defense with 20 digs.
Ellis again led the service attack in the second match, serving up 17 points. Jasmine Campbell was next with 16 points, followed by Swan with 14 points, Dillon with 11 points and Adkins with 10 points. Swan and Ellis both had team-highs of two aces.
Swan also led the net attack with six kills and four blocks, while Dillon added one kill and six blocks. Edmonds made a team-high 26 digs to lead the defense.
It was the final volleyball match for seniors Edmonds, Adkins and Swan with the Blue and Gold.
