POINT PLEASANT — After practicing as lawyers in separate states for many years, twin sisters Tanya Handley and Tonya Hunt have decided to join together in their own law firm.

Handley and Hunt recently opened their firm in Point Pleasant, Handley & Hunt, PLLC, located at 419 Main St. Although a resident of Mason County, Handley previously practiced law in Charleston. Hunt worked in Dallas, Texas, before moving back to West Virginia.

According to Handley, she and Hunt made it their goal to work together someday.

“We had always wanted to do this when we were younger and things eventually fell into place to do it when Tonya was looking to come to West Virginia,” Handley said.

The law firm officially opened on Nov. 16.

“Business is going really well and we are really enjoying working in Point Pleasant,” Hunt said.

“It has been a great opportunity to get to know people in the community, and it is interesting to see the different legal needs people have,” Handley said.

The sisters said working with each other is a positive experience.

“It has been really great,” Hunt said.

Handley agreed and said that she enjoyed working with a family member because it brings more honesty to the workplace.

“It is a very different experience than working with a non-relative. When working with a relative you can be more honest and they are more supportive,” Handley said.

The areas of practice that Handley and Hunt work with include personal injury, civil law, corporate law, criminal law, divorce, estate planning, family law, immigration, real estate, social security, disability, sports law, title work, wills and trusts and workers’ compensation. Handley and Hunt are available on weekends and evenings by appointment and are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To celebrate the start of their business, Handley and Hunt will host a grand opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. The event will feature door prizes as well as the opportunity to meet Handley and Hunt.

Both Handley and Hunt said that they were appreciative to everyone who has supported them, and that they look forward to serving the legal needs of the people in Mason County.
