Sentencing
Chad W. McCallister, 31, Apple Grove, is to be sentenced on Jan. 18 in Mason County Circuit Court for his plea of voluntary manslaughter in the 2011 murder of René Gonzalez of Gallipolis Ferry. McCallister will appear before Judge David W. Nibert for his sentencing with former Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Damon Morgan, Jr., appointed as a special prosecutor representing the state. Attorney Jeff Woods will represent McCallister.
McCallister, who appeared before Judge Nibert last month in Mason County Circuit Court, entered his plea which includes a mandatory jail sentence of 10 years. McCallister is one of three men accused in the Gonzalez murder. Matthew C. Woods, 25, Gallipolis Ferry, pleaded guilty to second degree murder last year and was sentenced to a definite term of 10 years with the department of corrections by Judge Nibert last month. Steven L. Adkins, Jr. 26, Apple Grove, is set to go to trial in March for his alleged role in the Gonzalez murder.
