POINT PLEASANT — Family Counseling Connection is now providing counseling and therapy services at the organization’s office, located at 202 Main St. in Ripley.

Family Counseling Connection currently provides rape crisis intervention as well as prevention and education through the REACH (Rape, Education, Advocacy, Counseling and Healing) program to Jackson County residents and was recently awarded a Victims of Crime Recovery Act Grant from the Division of Criminal Justice Services to expand services to include counseling and therapy to victims of all crimes, nut just sexual assault.

As a result of the grant, these services will be offered at no cost to clients in Mason, Jackson and Roane counties. In addition to crime victim services, outpatient counseling and therapy will be available for individuals and families to help with a variety of issues, such as depression, anxiety, marital problems, parenting issues and stress. Fees are set on a sliding scale, based on the client’s income. Medicaid and other insurance are accepted as well. Appointments can be made by calling 304-340-3676.

Family Counseling Connection works with local law enforcement, prosecutors’ offices and domestic violence shelters to identify and offer services to victims of crime. These victims often suffer a tremendous amount of physical and psychological trauma. Each victim’s experience is different and the recovery process can be very difficult. If victims are to recover from the trauma, it is crucial that they receive proper support during the initial impact of the crime and throughout the criminal justice process.

Services will be provided each Tuesday by Jackson County native, Jan Hamon, a Master’s level licensed therapist who has worked for Family Counseling Connection since 2004. Jan previously worked at Westbrook Health Services in Spencer and served as adjunct faculty at WVU-Parkersburg, Jackson County Center for 14 years.
