HUNTINGTON — A deputy with the Mason County Sheriff’s Department has been suspended without pay after being charged with brandishing a deadly weapon and domestic assault in Cabell County.
Matthew B. Terry, 29, Milton, was arrested last week for the two misdemeanors and appeared before Cabell County Magistrate Betty Wolford who set his bond at $10,000. His preliminary hearing is slated for Oct. 30.
According to the criminal complaint from Cabell County Magistrate Court, Terry and his girlfriend Jamie Yates were arguing at their home at 2461 Lower Creek Rd. in Milton. During the argument, Terry allegedly retrieved a handgun during the argument with Yates grabbing this gun from Terry. A few minutes later, the complaint says Terry retrieved another handgun and forced Yates to flee the home in fear.
Mason County Commissioner Rick Handley said he had been told by County Administrator John Gerlach that Terry had been suspended 30 days without pay pending an investigation. At attempt to contact Mason County Sheriff Michael Roach for a comment about Terry had not been successful as of press time.
Terry is a relatively new hire to the department.
