ASHTON — Mason County authorities have determined the identity of a dead body discovered Tuesday morning in the Ashton area.
After much investigation, the Mason County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the body was that of 35-year old Tonya Slaughter of Huntington. According to Mason County Sheriff David Anthony, Slaughter has no family or known connections with Mason County.
At 8 a.m. on Tuesday, deputies discovered Slaughter’s body, which was lying along Barton Chapel Road, located in the southern end of the county near Ashton. Anthony said that he suspects that foul play led to the victim’s death, and that the investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
The West Virginia State Police assisted in the investigation. Capt. Peterson is serving as the investigating officer. Anthony encouraged those who may have information regarding the victim, to call the sheriff’s department at (304) 675-3838.
