ASHTON — The southern portion of the county will have several activities to celebrate the Fourth of July.

The Fourth Annual Fourth of July Celebration will be Saturday at the Rivers Edge Campground, located on W.Va. 2 (Huntington Road) in Ashton. The event is sponsored by the campground and the fireworks are sponsored by the Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Events will begin at 11 a.m. with music, food and fun for children. Starting the day will be the golf cart parade, and a gospel sing will follow at noon and last throughout the day.

There will be activities for children, including inflatables and bounce houses as well. Refreshments will be sold, such as hamburgers and barbecue sandwiches from the Sugar Shack throughout the day. The fire department also will host a bake sale to raise money for the department.

A fireworks show will close out the evening at 10 p.m. This year’s fireworks are from the Premier Fireworks company. Trained firefighters will be in charge of setting the fireworks off.

Frances Clagg, owner of the Rivers Edge Campground, encouraged everyone to come to the event to celebrate Independence Day in a clean-cut family atmosphere.

“(The Fourth of July Celebration) is a family oriented. There is no drinking, and it is for the families,” she said.

For more information, call the fire department at 304-576-2237 or the campground at 304-576-3440.
