Our Heavenly Home

By C. Burns

There is an old saying that tells us that we can’t go home again, but many of us have over the past few weeks.

Home is a great place to be. Home is where we feel comfortable. Home is where we come from, it shapes us, and we long to go back. Many people can reflect fondly of childhood and being home and feeling safe. When we faced troubles or needing advice, we went home. When we go to work or school, many of us cannot wait to get home. It is nice to take a vacation, but it isn’t the same as being home and sleeping in your own bed. Home is a special place — it is our place.

However nice our earthly homes are or however safe and secure we feel while we are there, they fail in comparison with our Heavenly Home.

According to John 14:2-4, Jesus himself tells us that there is more than enough room in His Father’s house; and that He is preparing a place for us and when it is ready He will come and take us there. What a lovely thought, Jesus himself — a carpenter on earth — is currently building us a place to spend eternity. We know that our Heavenly home will be perfect, no thieves can break in, no moths or rust can destroy what is there.

John 14:6 tells us that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and that He is the only way to the Father. To get the keys to our heavenly home, we must go to Jesus; and doing so is as simple as following our ABC’s. We must Admit that we are sinners and need a savior. We must Acknowledge Jesus as God’s Son – as our only hope for salvation. We must Believe in Jesus and that He lived a sinless life, willingly died for our sins on the cross, and that He was raised from the dead. We must Confess our sins to Jesus and Confess Him as our Lord and Savior. We need to be baptized, (which to work with our ABC’s – we say DUNK – meaning immersion). After this we must Endure, remain Faithful, Give of our time and resources, Help where we can, and Intercede (pray) for others.
