Jesus is victorious

Jesus is victorious

By Isaiah Pauley

What an adventure I had at Dairy Queen last week.

I go through the drive-thru. Why? Because I’m hungry. But I don’t view the menu. Nope. Not me. My appetite is already developed. I know what I want. My stomach aches. My mouth waters.

The woman removes the lock on the window. I should have been faster. But she’s gracious.

Let me tell you, my order doesn’t take a minute to prepare. Out it comes. In blue packaging. Steaming hot. Smoke rising from my red face. I hold it. Oh, it looks so delicious. So familiar. They even give me an Apple with my meal!

I look at it, relieved. I take a bite. Yummy! But there’s writing on my food. “Settings…” What? Since when did Dairy Queen put settings in their meals? Then, I realize something else. A camera! Oh my goodness! They’re spying on their customers. Is that illegal? But that’s not the worst part. There’s a battery. Oh, no! My food is losing energy as I stare at it!

So I take the plunge. And off we drive — with my iPhone!

Now, let me explain.

There’s nothing better than a large Pumpkin Pie Blizzard. Well, I like the M&M one, too. But that’s another story.

Anyway, my family and I visited Dairy Queen last Friday night. And while I was there, I decided to sit my iPhone on the booth. Oh, you know. I was having a grand ole’ time. Slurping my ice-cream. Talking about retirement — because I’m seventeen, you know.

Evidently, I was dreaming too much. Because I forgot my cell phone. It took me probably five minutes to realize it.

My grandpa pulls into my driveway. And I say, “Where’s my phone?”

So off we go. Back to Dairy Queen. And that’s the context of my story.

But, of course, there’s a message I want to share with you.

When I get my phone back, I remember my background. My lock-screen photo. Three words lay upon a black screen. The red and white letters spell, “Jesus is victorious.”

I pray every Dairy Queen worker who saw that background found comfort in its message.

You see, it’s more than a lock-screen photo. It’s the truth. It’s the greatest message on the planet. The Gospel.

Jesus is victorious.

Over sin. Death. Temptation. Cancer. Addictions, temptations, anxieties, and flaws. Jesus is victorious over everything. All things. Forever.

“‘I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world’”(John 16:33 NLT).

Indeed He has.

I don’t know what you’re struggling with today. But God cares. He loves you to pieces. That’s why He let Roman soldiers break His flesh, watching blood flow down His legs.

We sinned. Jesus died for our sin. His grave is empty. The enemy is defeated. Jesus is victorious. So are we.

“For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:4-5 NLT).

I really pray a Dairy Queen worker got that message last Friday. And I pray you do, too!

Jesus is victorious.
