RACINE, Ohio —Forcing turnovers and controlling the boards are usually keys to victory.

The Southern boys basketball team held a 27 rebound advantage and forced Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division guest Miller into 27 turnovers Tuesday night as the Tornadoes cruised to a 59-43 triumph in Meigs County.

Southern (14-3, 10-2 TVC Hocking) stormed to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and, after a 16-point second quarter by both teams, held the 35-25 lead at halftime.

The Tornadoes pushed their lead over Miller (5-14, 3-10) to 16 points headed into the fourth quarter, and sealed the 59-43win with nine markers in the finale.

Southern was led by Tristen Wolfe with 18 points and Chandler Drummer with 16. Dennis Teaford marked 11 points, Casey Pickens added five, Zac Beegle marked four, Trenton Deem had three and Bradley McCoy rounded out the SHS total with two points.

Southern shot 25-of-73 (34.2 percent) from the field, 1-of-10 (10 percent) from beyond the arc, and 5-of-12 (41.7 percent) from the free throw line. The Purple and Gold had 48 rebounds, 10 assists, 13 steals and 19 turnovers in the win.

Teaford capped off his double-double proformance with 16 rebounds, while Wolfe had eight. Drummer pulled down seven boards, while Beegle and Pickens each had six. Wolfe led the defense with six steals, followed by Beegle and Deem with three apiece. Wolfe and Deem each had three assists to lead SHS.

The Falcons were led by Hunter Starlin with 17 points and Elijah Radar with 16. Garrett Sinift marked 18 points, Cody McKnight added three and Kody McFan rounded out the Miller total with one point.

The guests shot 14-of-38 (36.8 percent) from the field, 8-of-26 (30.8 percent) from the three and 7-of-16 (43.75 percent) from the charity stripe. MHS had 21 rebounds, eight assists and seven steals to go along with 27 turnovers in the setback.

Southern also defeated Miller on January 10 in Hemlock.
