Ten weeks of football are officially in the books as of 10 p.m. Saturday night — and only one Ohio team from Ohio Valley Publishing area will be headed past the regular season.

Thanks to a 48-13 victory by Fairfield Christian Academy over Fisher Catholic, South Gallia ha been eliminated from playoff contention in the Division VII, Region 25 bracket. Early indicators are that the Rebels will just miss out on their fourth playoff berth and finish ninth in the region with a 6-4 overall mark.

Southern had already captured the program’s first-ever postseason berth after Week 9, and the Tornadoes capped off their historical regular season with a 34-0 triumph over Meigs County rival Eastern.

Southern (8-2) appears to have earned the five spot in Region 25 and will likely be headed to fourth-seeded Steubenville Central Catholic (8-2) for a Saturday night matchup at 7 p.m.

More details of Southern’s victory over the Eagles will appear in the Tuesday sports edition of The Daily Sentinel, Gallipolis Daily Tribune and Point Pleasant Register.

Neither Meigs (7-3) nor Gallia Academy (5-5) placed in the top-10 of the Division IV, Region 14 bracket and River Valley ended the year with a 1-9 mark.

The official OHSAA football ratings come out Sunday morning and will be available online at ohsaa.org
