RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Pau Rodriguez scored two of the University of Rio Grande’s five second half goals, while Romain Terzian and Patricio Arce both added a one goal and an assist to fuel the RedStorm’s 6-0 win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University, Sunday afternoon, at Evan E. Davis Field.

Rio Grande, ranked No. 3 in the latest NAIA coaches poll, used its second half scoring explosion to win for the 11th time against one loss and a pair of ties. Head coach Scott Morrissey’s squad also moved to 6-0-2 in Mid-South Conference play.

The RedStorm enjoyed a 28-7 advantage in shots, including 16-1 in the second half, but led just 1-0 at the intermission thanks to the third goal in as many games by sophomore midfielder Ryota Tonegawa (Kawaguchi, Saitawa, Japan) off of an assist by Arce with just 6:15 left before the break.

Rodriguez, a freshman forward from Barcelona, Spain, made it 2-0 just 3:23 into the second stanza thanks to a dual assist from Terzian and senior midfielder Maxi Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay).

Arce, a freshman defender from Santiago, Chile, headed a ball into the net off of a corner kick by senior defender Craig Davies (Wolverhampton, England) at the 52:39 mark and freshman forward William Paulino (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored off of and assist by Rodriguez just over six minutes later to push the Rio lead to 4-0.

Terzian, a sophomore defender from Valence, France, whistled a rebounded miss into the net at 61:24 for his first score of the season and 5-0 lead, while Rodriguez closed out the scoring with an unassisted marker just over two minutes later.

Junior goal keeper Jon Dodson (Tiffin, OH) recorded three saves for the RedStorm before giving way to freshman teammate Ludovic Delapeyre (Boissy Saint Legre, France) for the final 14:08 of the match.

Ian Hamilton went the distance in goal for Cumberland (4-11-1, 3-5) and finished with nine saves.

Rio Grande returns to action next Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
