GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. — Greenup County Sheriff Keith Cooper is reporting a scam in Greenup County, Ky. According to reports, county residents have been receiving out of state calls in which residents are being told they have criminal or civil charges.

Cooper said the out of state callers are informing Greenup County residents that they have criminal or civil charges which can only be resolved with a credit card payment, and are soliciting personal information from residents. The Sheriff is advising residents not to communicate with the subjects, and to abstain from sharing any information.

According to Cooper’s office, the number the subjects have been using to make the calls is 317-611-4770. Any information or questions regarding the telephone scam should be directed to the Greenup County Sheriff’s Office at 606-473-9833.
